Comments, reactions and links

Understand the difference between a conversation and a memo's own lifecycle.

Comments are notes with context

Creating a comment creates an independent memo and a COMMENT relation to the target. The comment retains its own author, placement, visibility and lifecycle. Do not assume that all readers of a parent note automatically see every comment or that deleting the parent must delete every related memo.

References and reactions

REFERENCE relations connect related ideas without merging their permissions. The API's SetMemoRelations operation replaces the mutable reference set; it does not rewrite immutable comment context. Reactions express a response to a readable memo. When building an integration, use the dedicated reaction and relation operations rather than editing derived fields in a memo response.

Try the three actions on disposable notes

Sign in, open an active memo you can read, and use its comment area to submit a short non-sensitive reply. Reload the conversation and confirm your reply appears with its own author. Use the reaction control to add a response and check it remains after reload. For a reference, use the memo-link control, search for another readable test memo and select it; already-linked results are disabled. Open the linked target to confirm the reference points to the intended note. These checks should be repeated as another reader if the conversation will be shared.
